Olde Field Farm250 viewsThe Mattapoisett Land Trust and the Rochester Land hosted a joint walk at the Olde Field Farm property on the afternoon of Sunday, February 23. Hikers walked through the pinewood trails and through the frozen wetlands surrounding the Mattapoisett River, looking for animal tracks in the snow and admiring the natural beauty Rochester has to offer. Strengthening Families Fair250 viewsThere was so much to do and discover on March 1 at the “Strengthening Families Fair”, funded by the Department of Early Education & Care, and coordinated by the Old Rochester Regional School District. Mattapoisett Firefighter’s Association250 viewsThe Mattapoisett Firefighter’s Association hosted a chowder competition on September 13 on the Mattapoisett Knights of Columbus grounds. Between 300 and 400 guests came to sample the chowder of 16 different teams, split into two categories: public safety and professional. Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride 250 viewsIt was a windy ride for the 120 participants of the 9th Annual Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride on October 4. From Westport to Falmouth, cyclists rode either the 75-mile or 35-mile route to raise funds for the Buzzards Bay Coalition, bringing in nearly $90,000. Rabies Check250 viewsDavid Smith of the Rochester Land Trust recently accompanied Randy Mickley, a USDA Wildlife disease biologist, as he checked live mammal traps set in Marion and Rochester as part of the Cape Cod Oral Rabies Program. The goal is to establish a vaccine barrier in Plymouth County to prevent reintroduction of rabies to Cape Cod. Two raccoons were caught in Rochester and three in Marion.
