Mrs. Claus488 viewsCandyland Faire Fun - the rain didn’t stop Holiday-minded buyers from attending the Mattapoisett Congregational Church’s Candyland Faire on November 14, 2009. It was standing-room only as people browsed through tables of hand-knitted sweaters, fudge, baked goods, festive dishes and more. Even Mrs. Claus took a break from her busy schedule to attend! Hurricane of 1938488 viewsMattapoisett resident Tim Smith purchased a collection of original Hurricane of 1938 photographs from an auction recently. The photographs show the devastation of the legendary hurricane in the area of Mattapoisett’s Silver Shell Beach and Angelica Point. Mr. Smith does not believe that the pictures have ever been published, and gave The Wanderer the first chance at publishing the photos. He intends on donating the collection to the Mattapoisett Historical Museum. Photos courtesy of Tim Smith.

Witch Rock486 viewsThe writing on Rochester’s famous “Witch Rock” has received a fresh coat of paint just in time for the Halloween season. The legend of the great rock, located on private property at the corner of New Bedford Road and Vaughan Hill Road, speaks of a witch hanging at the site, and the native Indians are said to have believed that the spirit of a witch dwells inside the rock and one could hear her cackle and scream on nights of the full moon.
