Snow Cat155 viewsThere wasn’t a lot of accumulation with the snow that fell on the weekend over the coast as the storm started with rain, but there was enough snow on Brandt Beach in Mattapoisett for a family to have some fun creating this feline creature with seashell eyes. He even has a tail. Photo courtesy Noi Sabal. January 11, 2023 edition

Michael Hogan155 viewsSeen practicing on Saturday morning at Wonder Bowl in New Bedford, Mattapoisett native Michael Hogan is a Special Olympics champion who registers scores that would be near the top of any league. Hogan has a trick shot in which he places the ball at his feet, spinning it in place and then fanning the ball forward by creating wind with rapid hand movement until it reaches the foul line, at which point he lets go and watches the ball inch forward. Ned's Point Balloon154 viewsNot a typical Saturday morning at Ned’s Point, where the Guinness promotional team finished up a St. Patrick's Day city tour that included Chicago, the Guinness brewery outside Baltimore, and New York before concluding in Mattapoisett. “The backdrop is gorgeous, the setting is another reason,” said Jeremy Hoar of the choice to use Ned’s Point as the Massachusetts location. Tinkham Lane154 viewsFootprints dot an icy pathway off Tinkham Lane, as the morning sun brightens the frozen tundra in the neighborhood where an EF-1 tornado did most of its damage back on August 8, 2023. Many fallen trees still lay in the woods between the homes, an abiding reminder to residents of their ordeal. Photo by Mick Colageo. January 25, 2024 edition

Tornado in Mattapoisett153 viewsAn EF-1 tornado touched down late Tuesday morning in Mattapoisett. The unusual weather event downed power lines and hundreds of trees, knocking out power to many homes north of Route 195. Television news crews descended from Boston, as the Mattapoisett Fire and Police departments worked with utility companies and many power lines to clean up roads and assist area residents coming home to frightening scenes. Krokodiloes153 viewsOld Rochester Regional High School Class of 2025 president Emerson Gonet was asked for her assistance, as the Harvard University Krokodiloes acapella singing group performed on February 3 at ORR to raise funds for the class. Emerson’s older brother Eddie Gonet, a Harvard sophomore, is a two-year member of the Krokodiloes, and this year acts as the group’s tour manager. Photos by Mick Colageo. February 8, 2024 edition

Sippican Elementary School153 viewsSippican Elementary School students have been planting seeds under the guidance of Nate Sander of the Marion Institute. As of May 4, there is a long way to go to harvest, but the program meant to educate children and help instill nutritional awareness and farming skills includes crops such as radishes capable of the full cycle to harvest before the last day of school. In the meantime, this heavily trampled area near the bus drop-off will need tender, loving care. Photo by Mick Colageo - May 16, 2024 edition

Island Wharf152 viewsA severely deteriorated seawall at Island Wharf is one of four major projects facing the Marion Harbormaster Department as it prepares grant applications and an operating budget for Fiscal Year 2024. Also in dire need of funding is decaying infrastructure at Old Landing, the town’s 17-year-old patrol boat and the planned Marine Center that in two years has become $1,000,000 more expensive due to inflated construction costs. Marion Art Center 152 viewsPrintmaking takes center stage at the Marion Art Center with works by Jani Kinnane and Taylor Hickey on exhibit through March. Kinnane’s print of a Ukrainian woman in folk attire demonstrates her artistic ability to not only produce lush images with hyper-realism, but also to convey emotion. The subject’s headdress is tattered, representing the current conflict being faced by the Ukraine. Image courtesy of Marion Art Center. March 9, 2023 edition
