Marion Natural History Museum113 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum hosted Valentina Lagomarsino, PhD student in the Biological Biomedical Sciences program at Harvard University. Lagomarsino shared her research exploring the similarities between the nervous system of the human brain and the mycorrhizal network of connections between trees. She discussed Susan Simard's work between birch and fir trees, and the connections and sharing of nutrients that was discovered when one tree was placed in shade and a neighboring tree fed Carbon 14. Morning Kayaking145 viewsAs with many mornings, not a ripple was seen or felt across Mattapoisett Harbor except those made by kayaker Cecile Callahan as August got underway. More recent tidal interference brought on by tropical storm Henri and the full moon have since receded, leaving us with our own peaceful if dreamy water world again. Photo by Laura McLean.
