Marion Natural History Museum41 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's Coastal Exploration group had a great time exploring freshwater and saltwater ecosystems this summer. We took a close look at tadpoles and salamanders undergoing metamorphosis, spotted turtles fighting with each other, a water snake, silversides and shrimp and much more. Many thanks to Marion Recreation Department for turning on the water at Washburn and to Adam Miller and Zack Ciesielski of the Marion Harbormaster's office for their help collecting plankton samples. Marion Natural History Museum77 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum community group enjoyed a presentation on Horseshoe Crabs last week. The museum wishes to thank Derek Perry, Invertebrate Fisheries biologist from Massachusetts Department of Marine Fisheries, for sharing his expertise with us. Although there are many hurdles to overcome for these amazing animals, there is reason for hope, given some of the fieldwork results provided by the many volunteers who monitor our beaches. First Congregational Church of Marion Summer Fair73 viewsThe First Congregational Church of Marion Summer Fair was held on July 27 with an effort to raise funds for the restoration of its clock tower. Main Street was closed to traffic so visitors could enjoy several booths full of goods for sale, along with sports equipment, while visiting the Penny Pinchers’ Exchange, a lobster roll or a burger or dog from the grill. A bake sale was conducted on church grounds. Photos by Mick ColageoJul 31, 2024
