Marion Natural History Museum170 viewsHarbormaster's office for the opportunity to visit the newly refurbished Bird Island. We had the opportunity to see terns, geese, ducks, cormorants, and oystercatchers, as well as a trip to the top of the lighthouse. We viewed the changes that have been made to the island to make it more hospitable to the arriving tern population, which will be looking for a nesting habitat. Photos courtesy Elizabeth Leidhold

Marion Natural History Museum192 viewsMany thanks to the Blue Hill Audubon's Trailside Museum and the Marion Cultural Council for the fun program last Friday night. Participants were able to get up close and personal with two very different looking Eastern box turtles, a spotted turtle, and a very long black rat snake. We also discussed timber rattlesnakes and how to properly pick up a turtle to help it get across the road safely. Be aware, they may get upset and emit some fluid onto your leg so best to hold at a distance from your body!
