Learning From The Past1178 viewsThird Grade students at Rochester’s Memorial School recently got acquainted with Rochester’s rich, historic past thanks to members of the Rochester Historical Commission. Students were treated to a hands-on experience with old toys, primitive household items and educational tools, and learned about early church customs, Rochester’s Native Americans, and changes in the town boundaries as Marion, Mattapoisett, and Wareham eventually broke off from the large township of Rochester to form their own towns.

ORR Relay for Life929 viewsJust some of the nearly 200 students, teachers, family members and friends who recently participated in the Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society (ACS) at Old Rochester Regional High School on Friday, June 10. The fund-raising event kicked off with the first laps led by cancer survivors, while 17 teams of walkers continued on throughout the 18-hour event. This year’s walk raised more than $48,000 for ACS programs.

Celebrating Culture1384 viewsOn the evening of May 4, Old Rochester Regional Junior High School hosted a Multi-Cultural Celebration. Celebrating the culture and history of French and Spanish countries, students displayed artwork, PowerPoint presentations, performed live music and dance and served a variety of French and Spanish food. Books for Sippican1703 viewsSippican School in Marion was the recipient of a very generous donation recently. Jason Zutaut, an executive with Strictly by the Book, heard about the need to expand the collection in the school’s Reading Book Room, which teachers use as a book resource. Unfortunately, it was limited to books for Kindergarten through Grade 3. When Mr. Zutaut heard about the “wish list” compiled by staff members at Sippican, he immediately responded with a generous donation of several books.
