One in a Million1165 viewsOne-year-old Madison Gallant of Marion was recently the millionth visitor to Buttonwood Park Zoo in New Bedford since the zoo’s re-opening in August of 2000. Madison was accompanied by her mother, Kate Ostneberg, who was the millionth and one visitor to the zoo. Kate and Madison received a free zoo membership, a $100 shopping spree at the North Woods Gift Store, a train ride around the zoo, and lunch at the Bear’s Den Café.

Whale Winner1328 viewsFive-year-old Kate Lima of New Bedford is the winner of the “Name the Whale” Contest sponsored by First Night New Bedford. Kate chose to name the event’s tell-tale mascot “Welcome the Whale.” The First Night New Bedford 2006 committee chose the winning name “Welcome” for its cheerful whale design depicted on First Night buttons and posters. Kate received several prizes for her winning entry.
