Arts in Action1156 viewsSippican School First Grader Emily Hiller tries to create the lifelike ceramic fish from Grainger Pottery on display at the recent “Arts in Action” program held at the school. On May 13, the Marion school hosted its first “Arts in Action” show for members of the staff and local artists. Among other interesting and unique displays were Russian Egg painting, bird carving, mural painting, flip-flop sandal decorating and portrait sculpture.

Teaming Up Against Cancer1092 viewsMembers of “Team Bertha,” a group of five local mothers and daughters, will walk almost 40 miles in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer with thousands of others to help find a cure. Workin' at the Car Wash1134 viewsMembers of the Old Rochester Youth Football and Cheerleading (ORYF) League recently held a benefit Car Wash at the Marion Fire Station on Spring Street. Over the next month, the league will be holding a series of car washes to raise money for uniforms, pads, footballs, poms-poms, first aid kits, and other necessary supplies and fees. The Marion students learned about the trial from 1637 where Ms. Hutchinson was banished from the colony for allegedly being “a woman not fit for society” because of her religious beliefs.

Student Notes1007 viewsThe Mattapoisett Center School Strings performed at the Friends of Old Rochester Music (FORM) Concert again this year at ORR High School. At left are third graders Dottie Vance and Sam Appleton. Marking tradition, all the tri-town bands joined together at the culmination of the concert.
