Members of the Mattapoisett Tree Committee dedicated a tree which was planted last fall in the new War Memorial Park at the Mattapoisett Free Public Library on Friday, April 25. A certificate of authenticity was provided indicating that the newly-planted “Witness Tree,” a tulip poplar, is a direct descendant of a tree planted by George Washington at Mount Vernon.
