Memorial Day in Mattapoisett was observed as it traditionally is, with ceremonies in front of the Mattapoisett Library followed by the parade march to Cushing Cemetery. This year’s guest speaker, Mattapoisett resident U.S. Army Sergeant Edward Sweeney, Jr. stirred the emotions of those in attendance with his speech about sacrifice and the American way of life. The Old Hammondtown School Band was impressive with its performance of several patriotic songs, and Representative William Straus, the selectmen, and several local veterans were also part of the program.
