The 138th Summer Season at St. Philip’s concludes with morning services and a 4:00 pm Hymn Sing
The Rev. Jeffrey Paull Cave, Retired, Diocese of Atlanta, GA., will conduct morning services at 8:00 am and 10: 00 am on Sunday, September 4 at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, 34 Water Street next to the Mattapoisett Town Beach. The 1928 Book of Common Prayer will be used at both services.
Then, at 4:00 pm, Rev. Cave and the Rev. Benjamin Straley, Rector, St. Stephen’s, Providence, RI will lead the congregation in the popular, old-fashioned Hymn Sing which resumes after a two-year hiatus.
Rev. Cave will provide historic background on many of the hymns, and Rev. Straley will accompany on the church organ. Prior to becoming a clergyman, Rev. Straley was the organist and choirmaster at the National Cathedral, Washington, DC. Requests for your favorite hymn are welcomed.
A reception will follow in the side yard with refreshments. Don’t miss this informal family tradition. All are welcome to the morning services and the Hymn Sing.
