November Events at the Mattapoisett Museum

November 4, 2:00 pm – Discovery Days: A new program for individuals with dementia-related memory loss and their care partners on Thursday, November 4, at 2:00 pm. During this one-hour program, individuals will make personal connections with artifacts, discussion, art making, and multi-sensory activities facilitated by educators at the Mattapoisett Museum. This program is limited to 10 people with their care partners.

            November 5, 6:00 pm –New Sounds of Silents: Silent films set to live music. The first edition of this Southcoast Lessons presentation will feature fall holiday-themed silent shorts with multiple teams of performers backing them. Come on out for some goofy, spooky, turkey, holiday shopping reels set to both improvised and newly composed pieces brought to you by Southcoast Lessons staff, students, and guests.

            We’ll be playing three films, including clips from Harold Lloyd’s “Hot Water,” and “The Freshman,” which feature turkeys, shopping, and football. We’ll also have a piece of early colorized fantasy from Mélière as a tip of the hat to the Halloween costume season. This event is free, space is limited. Doors open at 6:00 pm.

            November 19, 6:00 pm – Southcoast Lessons presents Open Mic Night: The mic is yours! All ages and all genres welcome to sing a song, play an instrument, read your favorite poem, tell a story, and enjoy what your community has to offer.

            November 21, 3:00 pm – Christian Church Service: Rev Lucia Jackson (Bridge Minister of Mattapoisett Congregational) will be leading the annual church service at the museum. Father Chris from St. Anthony’s will also be taking part, and Michelle Gordon has volunteered to play the organ. All are welcome to attend.

            November 28, 1:00 pm – Southcoast Lessons presents Old Time Fiddle Session: Join us for a gathering of traditional string band musicians and music lovers. Bring an instrument if you play, a seat if you’ve got one you love, and yourself whether you play and own seating or not!
