Have you ever wondered what was making all of those sounds near your neighborhood wetland or pond? Well, join the Mattapoisett Land Trust’s Education Committee to seek some answers on Saturday, September 30.
MLT will be joined by Environmental Analyst for the Mass. Department of Environmental Protection, Carlos T. B. Fragata, for a Wetland Discovery Program. Learn about the animals that frequent wetlands and ponds, what they are and the sounds they make and how they grow and live together. The program will begin Saturday morning at 10:30 am in the community meeting room of the Mattapoisett Public Library where Carlos will lead a presentation. Following the presentation, around 11:15 am, we will offer for participants to drive to Grace Pond to meet Carlos for about 30 minutes of hands-on exploration if weather permits.
This program is designed for adults and families alike. Grace Pond is accessed from the MLT kiosk on Bowman Road. For the Grace Pond portion of the program, we suggest wearing rubber boots, bringing binoculars and a net if you have one and bringing drinking water and bug spray if you’d like. If you are in need of carpool from the library to Eel Pond, please email elflynn@vassar.edu to arrange.
