ORR Solidifies SCC Supremacy

            After clinching the South Coast Conference large championship, the Old Rochester Regional High School boys and girls track-and-field teams solidified themselves as the top dogs in the South Coast Conference with victories in the SCC Championship meet on May 19.

            On the girls’ side, Julia Sheridan was a double winner in the javelin and 400 meters. Jen Williams and Maggie Brogioli took the top two spots in both the long jump and 100 hurdles, while Hanna Whalley took first place in the mile and Maddie Conner won the 800. Other top finishers for the Lady Bulldogs were Alexia Gonsalves in the 2 mile (second), Taylor Greene in the shot put (third) and javelin (sixth), Cameran Weaver in triple jump (sixth), Jillian LeBlanc (fifth) and Gabby Pinhancos (sixth) in the 400 hurdles, Anna Dube in the 800 (fourth), and Alexa St. Louis in the 200 (second).

            For the boys, Murray Copps, Aidan Silk and Nolan Bushnell scored big in the mile, picking up first, third and fifth-place finishes. Colby Gross and Leo Schiappa each picked up big wins in the 200 and 100, respectively. Other contributors included Tyler Trudeau in triple jump (fourth), John Kassabian (second) and Matthew Curry (fifth) in the 800, Sam Balsis in the 400 hurdles (second), Hunter Bishop in javelin (third), Jacksen Veugen in the 2 mile (third), Theo Cecil in the 100 (fourth), Remy Wilson in the 200 (sixth), and Wesner Archelus in the 110 hurdles (sixth).

            The meet was capped off with relays, and the Bulldogs had big success there. Minutes after the opening 800, Kassabian and Curry turned around to pick up a first-place finish in the 4×800 alongside Copps and Silk. The girls 4×800 team of Gonsalves, Dube, Whalley and Conner finished a close second. The boys 4×100 team of Wilson, Landon Maxwell, Rudy Arsenault and Gavin Martin came in third. The 4×400 teams finished strong, as the boys team of Balsis, Schiappa, Cecil and Gross dominated, while the girls’ team of LeBlanc, Weaver, Pinhancos and Sheridan came from behind for a first-place finish.

Girls Lacrosse

            The Lady Bulldogs continued their win streak last week, picking up a 17-2 win at home against Bourne on May 18. Maddie Wright led ORR with 8 goals while Kelly Quinlan scored 3. They followed up on May 20 with a 17-5 win over Dighton-Rehoboth before defeating Cape Cod Academy, 17-4, on Monday. ORR hosted Fairhaven on Wednesday and will visit Greater New Bedford Voc-Tech on Friday, May 27.

Boys Lacrosse

            Old Rochester’s undefeated run is still going after three wins last week. On May 17, they destroyed Dartmouth, 20-1, at home. The next day, the Bulldogs visited Bourne, where they picked up an 11-6 win. They capped off the week on May 20 with an 11-4 win over Dighton-Rehoboth at home. The Bulldogs visited Fairhaven on Wednesday and will host GNB Voc-Tech on Saturday, May 28.

Baseball

            The ORR baseball team went 0-2 in their last two outings, with a 5-3 loss to Somerset Berkley on May 20, followed by a 4-0 shutout loss at home against Apponequet. They looked to get back on track on Wednesday and will host Dartmouth on Monday, May 30.

Boys Tennis

            After a 3-2 loss to Apponequet on May 17, the Bulldogs bounced back on Monday against Fairhaven with a 3-2 win. ORR got wins from Markus Pierre in singles as well as the first doubles team of Max Vivino and Riley Farrell and the second doubles team of Spencer Merolla and Lukas Michaelis. The Bulldogs visited Bishop Feehan on Tuesday.
