By day, Patty Cunningham is a graphic designer with a beastly commute. But when she meets up with her creative peers in the Mattapoisett Area Artists group, her life takes on new meaning.
“It’s been huge,” said Cunningham, who marries photography and digital painting with memorable results. “It brings us all together. At first, I was embarrassed to share and talk about my work, but right away I could tell that this was a generous, energetic group. … Show and tell is the best night, because there is such joy and interaction.”
Now, the Mattapoisett Area Artists have taken the show and tell on the road.
After a successful exhibit last weekend at the Tinkhamtown Helping Hands Society, 188 Acushnet Rd., the group will once again display and sell their work this Saturday and Sunday, September 28 and 29, noon to 6:00 pm. Cunningham is one of the artists in the show with several pieces, including “Reflections of Spring, River Road,” which juxtaposes shimmering greens and wintry whites.
“This is my first show, and it has been really cool so far,” Cunningham said while greeting visitors on Saturday. “We weren’t sure what to expect, but thanks to the efforts of [organizers and fellow artists] Becky McCann, Christine Bertram, and Dave Englund, we’ve got a great location and a steady stream of people coming in.”
McCann features jewelry in the show; Bertram, paintings; and Englund, sculpture. Other work includes pen-and-ink art from Englund’s daughter Kayma, as well as work from Carolyn Lima , Eliot Thrash (“Café in Nice”), Elizabeth Milliken Klim (“Blooms”), and Lynn Short (“Window by the Bay”).
