Mattapoisett Harbormaster178 viewsMattapoisett Harbormaster Jill Simmons has become a de facto art museum curator since the town acquired prints and photographs that now grace the walls of the tiny harbormaster’s office at Shipyard Park. Local photographer Misty King has several of her pieces on display, along with two pieces by USCG’s artist Michael Mazur. Mazur’s pieces depict scenes from the 2003 Bouchard oil spill off West Island. Simmons welcomes the public to stop by and take a look at the mini art installation. Photo by Marilou Newel

Rochester Memorial Day178 viewsRochester fared far better with its Memorial Day celebration than Marion and Mattapoisett did with theirs on rainy Monday. Sunday, May 29, was a picture perfect day for a parade. At the Town Hall, the names of the fallen soldiers were read aloud and the Rochester Memorial School Band played patriotic songs before heading out for the parade. Photos by Colin Veitch

Rochester Memorial School Science Fair178 viewsEveryone was ‘sciencing’ at the Rochester Memorial School Science Fair the evening of Monday, June 6. Some unique experiments answered some provocative questions such as which type of gum flavor lasts longer: regular or sugarless? Can we slow down global warming with cow diapers? Can you bounce an egg? Photos by Jean Perry

The OHS band played a number of tunes, while the Center School students sang patriotic songs and listened to Principal Rose Bowman read a series of poems and writings to remind the children of what the American flag stands for. Afterwards, the third-graders treated the seniors to the school’s annual senior breakfast. Photos by Jean Perry
