Officer Flynn and Rochester Police Chief Paul Magee recently pushed to revive the DARE Program at the town’s elementary school, despite cutbacks in state aid. Show-stopping Benefit1098 viewsShowstoppers Musical Entertainment, a community-service vocal troupe comprised of 22 local children, recently raised $1400 for the American Red Cross. The talented singing group held their Disaster Relief Concert, “Rockin’ Through The Ages,” on November 5 in a packed hall at the Knights of Columbus in Mattapoisett. The program showcased the children performing a musical revue spanning five decades.

One in a Million1096 viewsOne-year-old Madison Gallant of Marion was recently the millionth visitor to Buttonwood Park Zoo in New Bedford since the zoo’s re-opening in August of 2000. Madison was accompanied by her mother, Kate Ostneberg, who was the millionth and one visitor to the zoo. Kate and Madison received a free zoo membership, a $100 shopping spree at the North Woods Gift Store, a train ride around the zoo, and lunch at the Bear’s Den Café.

Teaming Up Against Cancer1095 viewsMembers of “Team Bertha,” a group of five local mothers and daughters, will walk almost 40 miles in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer with thousands of others to help find a cure. Team Bertha consists of Margaret (Mardee) Xifaras of Marion and her daughters, Juliet Xifaras of Fairhaven and Dena Xifaras of Roslindale, MA and Rochester resident Sharon Hartley and her daughter Amy Hartley-Matteson of Mattapoisett.
