Marion Natural History Museum185 viewsOn Wednesday, the Marion Natural History Museum's after school group brought in their collections of rocks and minerals, coins, coral, and even Star Wars figures. We spoke about the history of collecting nature-related artifacts worldwide, beginning with "cabinets of curiosities" owned by individuals through modern day museums, and how studying these specimens helps us gain historic perspective. The group explored the museum's collections of minerals, shells, bird eggs and nests, among many other items.

Marion Natural History Museum185 viewsMany thanks to the Blue Hill Audubon's Trailside Museum and the Marion Cultural Council for the fun program last Friday night. Participants were able to get up close and personal with two very different looking Eastern box turtles, a spotted turtle, and a very long black rat snake. We also discussed timber rattlesnakes and how to properly pick up a turtle to help it get across the road safely. Be aware, they may get upset and emit some fluid onto your leg so best to hold at a distance from your body!

Dupuis, a former cobbler, and Padelford are master basket weavers who have been studying and teaching the craft for many years.
