As usual, the kids exhibited outstanding cooperation, creativity, and imagination. Marion Natural History Museum215 viewsMany thanks to Justin and Jess Barrett of the Nasketucket Bird Club for sharing their expertise and helping the Marion Natural History Museum after school group locate many of our spring bird arrivals. We viewed a red-tailed hawk, two vultures, many robins, a downy woodpecker, and many more. Marion Natural History Museum215 viewsOn Wednesday, the Marion Natural History Museum after-school group had fun inspecting some of the residents of vernal pools. With the use of magnifying glasses, we studied wood frog and salamander egg masses, log-cabin caddis-fly larvae, tadpoles, and various bugs. All specimens were returned to their original pool and now the students can recognize and, hopefully, protect these animals in the future. We also had a chance to handle some sphagnum moss and took a close look at the plant's structure to see why

This year’s weather was a major improvement from last year’s soaking, but overall participation was down this year. The Scoop on S.C.O.P.E. 215 viewsORRJHS 7th-grade students participated in the annual S.C.O.P.E. cardboard boat race at the beach at the Mattapoisett YMCA last Wednesday, June 20. The students engineer and build their boats – some sink, some sail – and this year team “Funky Monkey” came in first place. There were 15 boats in all this year, all created by teams of four. Homecoming Queens 215 viewsColleen Oakes, originally from Marion, and Renee Buteyne, from Rochester, finished the trip of a lifetime on Monday, July 16, having ridden across the United States on their bicycles. Leaving Portland, Oregon on May 2, the two childhood friends arrived at Buteyne’s parents’ driveway about a month earlier than anticipated, greeted by family, friends, confetti, cookies, and of course, hugs. Tabor Gateways215 viewsTabor Academy has welcomed 35 students from China and those of Chinese heritage from other English-speaking countries for two three-week sessions of Tabor Gateways. The students, entering grades 8-11 will be at Tabor from July 15-August 17.
