Summer Reading Play217 viewsOn Friday, August 3, members of the Mattapoisett Library Summer Reading Program presented their final play of the season in their outdoor theater on the Library’s lawn. Marion Block Party217 viewsParty of the money raised at the 2012 Marion Block Party will go to help pay for a new thermal imager for the Marion Fire Department. The tool helps firefighters locate victims when visitibility is low. This imager, which will be replaced by the new one, was the original imager the Fire Department bought in the early 1990s. Veteran’s Day 217 viewsOn November 12, members of the Mattapoisett community gathered together at Old Hammondtown Elementary School for their annual Veteran’s Day ceremony. Commander Michael Lamoureux served as emcee of the event while State Representative William Straus, Selectman Paul Silva, Veterans’ Agent Barry Denham and U.S. Navy Lieutenant Scott Burrill addressed the audience. Sandy Relief217 viewsOn Friday, November 16, members of the Mattapoisett Lions Club packed a moving truck full of food and supplies and drove them down to Queens, NY to distribute them to victims of Hurricane Sandy. Nick's Pizza, Oxford Creamery, Mattapoisett Chowder House, On the Go and Panino's all donated soups and hot dogs to be served to those in need. The Rochester Lions Club also cooked chili to serve. New Year Plunge217 viewsOn January 1, 2013, Mattapoisett Town Beach played host to a New Year’s polar plunge fundraiser. The event, which attracted over 400 people, raised money to benefit BAM Foundation, Inc., a New Bedford non-profit which donates money to South Coast families dealing with members who have cancer. Amy Hartley-Matteson of Mattapoisett and Katherine Hartley of Rochester (2:11:14) won the women’s division for the third consecutive time – the second time they’ve three-peated.
