Rochester Country Fair232 viewsThe Rochester Country Fair rolled into town on Thursday, August 18, filled the air with the sweet smells of Italian sausage and fried fair food, mixed with the smoke of diesel engines, and created that magical scent we all relish until the fair wrapped up on Sunday, August 21. Tractor pulls, animal shows, kids’ games, music, and wrestling (including the match between The Aardvark and Buck Chuck) delighted us while it lasted in the bucolic setting of Rochester, Massachusetts. Sowing a Seed of Peace 232 viewsThese tender young leaves belong to a ginkgo biloba sapling propagated from a 250-year-old tree that survived the Hiroshima atomic blast. The Town of Rochester held a ceremony by the recently planted baby tree at the Dexter Lane ball fields on August 6, the 72nd anniversary of the bombing, and also acknowledged the Town’s participation in Arbor Day. The addition was dedicated to contractor Matthew Sherman, who passed away before completion of the project. Rescue cats now enjoy more space and an outdoor catio while they pass the time before finding a forever home. Photos by Jean Perry
