Memorial Day Boat Race195 viewsKeeping with an 80 year-old tradition, people with their home made boats raced toward the finish line during the annual Rochester Memorial Day Boat Race. Beginning at Grandma Hartley’s Reservoir on Snipatuit Road, boaters paddled the almost 12-mile race route to Herring Weir at River Road in Mattapoisett. There were 65 teams in all. Cottage Restored195 viewsA family has restored an old 1925 stone cottage on Snipatuit Pond in Rochester to its original state, and owner Andrea King gave a presentation on the restoration process to the Rochester Historical Society who got to see step by step how the King family, living in the U.S. Virgin Islands, brought the little cottage back to life to make it their second home. Rochester Fire195 viewsJust before 11:00 am on April 2, the Rochester Fire Department was called out to a structure fire on Vaughan Hill Road in Rochester, with initial responders calling for assistance from the Mattapoisett and Marion Fire Departments and a tanker from Rochester. The house was located on a farm about 1,000 feet from the road down a long dirt driveway, which created a problem for supplying water to the scene.
