Marion Village 5k Road Race85 viewsKim Bolick, 29, of Watertown finished first overall in 18:14 to win the Marion Village 5k Road Race that was held on June 25. Will Vrattos, 17, of Marion finished in 18:53 to edge 16-year-old Samuel Shrestha (19:00) of Dartmouth for third place overall and second among male finishers. We collected examples of plankton, caught fish and frogs in our nets, investigated tide pools and took trips to Bird and Ram Island. Later in the evening, Ted and Elizabeth Brainard visited Coahuila with Executive Director Liz Leidhold, while Treasurer Mike Cronin set up a telescope on the sidewalk out front of the Elizabeth Taber Library where attendees took turns viewing Jupiter and its moons. Marion Natural History Museum85 viewsOn November 29, the Marion Natural History Museum community group had fun crafting a distinctive butterfly mobile for the museum, drawing inspiration from the detailed illustrations of Maria Sibylla Merian. In this workshop, the participants combined historical accuracy with modern design to produce a captivating display that will hang above our antique butterfly case.
