Marion Natural History Museum98 viewsOn October 20, the Marion Natural History Museum’s after-school group spent time learning a little about our migrating bird populations. We found out that the Arctic tern migrates 50,000 miles, which is the longest distance of any bird. The ruby-throated hummingbird can migrate as far as Mexico and Central America in search of flowers and insects. We then went on a bird walk and managed to find a mourning dove, blue jay, European starling, black-capped chickadee, and belted kingfisher, among other birds.

Marion Natural History Museum98 viewsOn June 8, the Marion Natural History Museum’s afterschool group enjoyed a wonderful trip to Ram Island in Marion. The students watched various crabs in the salt marsh, visited several of the occupied Osprey nests and walked the shoreline looking for shells. We also had the opportunity to visit Clara and Darcy, the Moore’s pet donkeys. The museum would like to thank Dr. Michael Moore and his wife Hannah Moore for allowing us to explore the island’s many natural areas. Please visit our website: www.marionmus

Llama Visit98 viewsLauren and Jeff Paine from Pine Meadow Farm in Mattapoisett brought Chocolate and Patience to visit the children at the Loft School on October 20. The Pre-K class has been learning about Peru this month. The children had a chance to ask questions, see what Alpacas eat, feel their shorn fur and pet their new friends. In November, Pine Meadow Farm will be holding an Open House, where the public can visit the animals and purchase unique products. Courtesy photo
