Ice Sculpture at the Marion Art Center174 viewsIn front of the Marion Art Center, Tim Wade carved out an ice sculpture of a train on December 13, an unseasonably warm December day. The MAC reported several phone calls concerning the heat and whether the event would be canceled. Wade made his icy creation despite the warmth, as he has done for 10 years. Photos by Jean Perry

Marion Christmas Stroll 174 viewsThe Marion Christmas Stroll is one of the quintessential holiday events in Tri-Town, with Santa making his grand entrance via boat and hopping aboard a horse-drawn carriage to ride through Marion village with some lucky kids who hop aboard with him. Marion Memorial Day174 viewsRochester fared far better with its Memorial Day celebration than Marion and Mattapoisett did with theirs on rainy Monday. Sunday, May 29, was a picture perfect day for a parade. At the Town Hall, the names of the fallen soldiers were read aloud and the Rochester Memorial School Band played patriotic songs before heading out for the parade. Photos by Colin Veitch

Turtle Care174 viewsSome of the residents of Jenney Lane at The Cove in Marion have found a new passion in rescuing diamond-backed terrapin eggs and safely releasing the hatchlings into the wild. A private neighborhood group, along with “Turtle Guy” Don Lewis and wife Sue Weiber Nourse, created a terrapin habitat restoration project knows as the turtle garden at The Cove. The project has seen success this year with an increase in new terrapin nests over last year. Photos by Jean Perry

Marion Art Center Halloween Parade 174 viewsIt looked as though nearly a thousand people came out for the Marion Art Center Halloween Parade on Monday, October 31. The event gets bigger and better every year, it seems, judging by the number of people and the degree of creativity when it comes to the costumes. Photos by Jean Perry
