Ice Sculpture at the Marion Art Center186 viewsIn front of the Marion Art Center, Tim Wade carved out an ice sculpture of a train on December 13, an unseasonably warm December day. The MAC reported several phone calls concerning the heat and whether the event would be canceled. Wade made his icy creation despite the warmth, as he has done for 10 years. Photos by Jean Perry

Marion Natural History Museum186 viewsDr. Michael Moore of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, using the museum's harpoon and baleen, introduced the Marion Natural History Museum's after-school group to a little of Marion's whaling history. Students could ask questions and theorize why Sippican Harbor had the first recorded visit from a humpback whale this fall. We wish to thank Dr. Moore for the great program. Marion Town Party 186 viewsThe town collected hundreds of wood pallets and stacked them sky high in the ball field beside the Town House in anticipation of the annual Marion Town Party on Saturday, August 27. The theme of this year’s party, “Out of This World,” was appropriately represented in the playful banner hung on the stack of firewood and eventually burned along with it in an enormous bonfire. Marion Art Center Halloween Parade 186 viewsIt looked as though nearly a thousand people came out for the Marion Art Center Halloween Parade on Monday, October 31. The event gets bigger and better every year, it seems, judging by the number of people and the degree of creativity when it comes to the costumes. Photos by Jean Perry

Annual Turkey Trot 5K 186 viewsThe Annual Turkey Trot 5K wound its way through Marion Village on Sunday, November 17, with 182 trotters (and some ‘turkeys’ as well) braving a chilling wind that morning to make it to the finish line. Organized by the Marion Recreation Department, the event every year draws quite a flock of runners to the start and finish line at Tabor Academy, raising funds for Marion Rec programs and events. Marion Natural History Museum186 viewsOn Wednesday, March 29, the Marion Natural History Museum's afterschool program explored some online mapping programs. We located schools, forested lands, hospitals, and airports, as well as many ocean features and historic shipwrecks. The students left the program with instructions on how they could develop their own maps at home, which the museum will be laminating for them. Photo courtesy Elizabeth Leidhold
