Living History 280 viewsIt looked like July 8, 1776 at Silvershell Beach in Marion this past Saturday. Folks from the Fairhaven Village Militia and Wareham Militia Group in conjunction with Marion Recreation and the Marion Cultural Council took spectators back in time to Colonial Massachusetts during a weekend-long encampment at the beach. Participants in olde-tyme apparel demonstrated what life was like in the 1770s during the Revolutionary War through demonstrations of drilling, cooking, and flintlock musket use. Photos by Jean

Cushing Community Center on August 12 with an Open House, welcoming the general public to view the results of a months-long renovation that converted the old VFW Post #2425 building into a center for seniors and all residents to enjoy. Marion Halloween Parade 2017280 viewsHalloween in the Marion village is one event that shouldn’t be missed! Hundreds upon hundreds of little ghosts, ghouls, and goblins took to the streets to show off their costumes and follow it up with some treats (no tricks) and refreshments at the Marion Music Hall, sponsored by those very kind witches at the Marion Art Center. Marion Holiday Stroll280 views It was all about Santa on December 10 for the annual Marion Holiday Stroll, although at first the Grinch stole the show (but not Christmas) until Santa made his big arrival at Town Wharf to the chanting of his name, stealing back from the Grinch his rightful place as the center of attention. Marion Natural History Museum280 viewsOn Valentines Day, the Marion Natural History Museum's afterschool group had a chance to learn about humpback and right whales. Dr. Moore of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution showed the students how a drone may be used to observe a whale's spout to determine its health. We also had a chance to view bubble-netting practices of humpbacks, see how baleen plates fit in a whale's mouth, and discussed the hazards the whales face due to entanglements in fishing gear.
