Vernal Pools183 viewsGary Johnson of the Mattapoisett Land Trust led about a dozen on an excursion to the vernal pool at the Woodcock Preserve off Long Plain Road on Saturday, April 16, where they spotted the egg masses of the blue-spotted salamander, a species of ‘special concern,’ and the wood frog. Cops for Kids183 viewsOn April 28, Nicholas Claudio and his mother Alison Isherwood received a ‘big check’ for $5,000 from a partnership between Cops for Kids with Cancer and the Mattapoisett Police Officer’s Association. Claudio is a sophomore at ORRHS, an honor role student, and a cancer survivor. Tour de Crème183 viewsThe Mattapoisett Land Trust in tandem with the Mattapoisett Bike Path Committee held its first Tour de Crème on Sunday, May 22. The fundraiser brought groups on three different courses – 13-, 25-, and 48-miles long – winding their way through area towns and making stops at various local ice cream parlors. Two categories – professional establishment and public safety – competed for best judged chowder and people’s choice. Freezin’ for a Reason Polar Plunge183 viewsIt takes a certain type of person to jump into the cold ocean on New Year’s morning. Behold, the locals who fit that description as they enjoy a frosty January 1st at Mattapoisett Town Beach for the annual Freezin’ for a Reason Polar Plunge! Hundreds lined the beach to take the plunge, with bundled spectators watching from the sidelines and cheering as the plungers charged ahead screaming and shrieking with exhilaration.
