Olde Field Farm319 viewsThe Mattapoisett Land Trust and the Rochester Land hosted a joint walk at the Olde Field Farm property on the afternoon of Sunday, February 23. Hikers walked through the pinewood trails and through the frozen wetlands surrounding the Mattapoisett River, looking for animal tracks in the snow and admiring the natural beauty Rochester has to offer. Christmas Day Swim319 viewsOn Christmas Day 2014, about 50 hardy souls, young and old alike, ran with yelps of joy into 42-degree winter waters at Mattapoisett’s Town Beach. This annual event raises funds for Helping Hands and Hooves, a nonprofit organization in Mattapoisett that provides horseback riding lessons and therapeutic sessions for people with special needs. The colors of summer will soon shift to the colors of fall in the harbor, but not before a few more opportunities to take out those kayaks and sailboats with friends and family. Mattapoisett Firefighter’s Association319 viewsThe Mattapoisett Firefighter’s Association hosted a chowder competition on September 13 on the Mattapoisett Knights of Columbus grounds. Between 300 and 400 guests came to sample the chowder of 16 different teams, split into two categories: public safety and professional. Christmas Wreath Sale 319 viewsTeam “Sole Survivor” held its annual Christmas wreath sale last weekend beginning on Black Friday, and they will continue to sell hand-decorated wreaths and crafts throughout this weekend while supplies last. Rabies Check319 viewsDavid Smith of the Rochester Land Trust recently accompanied Randy Mickley, a USDA Wildlife disease biologist, as he checked live mammal traps set in Marion and Rochester as part of the Cape Cod Oral Rabies Program. The goal is to establish a vaccine barrier in Plymouth County to prevent reintroduction of rabies to Cape Cod. Two raccoons were caught in Rochester and three in Marion.

Marine Becket Kiernan319 viewsOn Friday, February 16, Class of 2017 ORR graduate and 18-year-old Marine Becket Kiernan was laid to rest at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. All of Old Rochester lined the side of Route 6 for a final farewell to Becket as Principal Mike Devoll stood solemnly as the procession passed beneath the giant U.S. flag suspended by two local ladder trucks. Tour de Crème319 viewsThis year’s 4th annual Tour de Crème raised $12,000 for outdoor recreation in Mattapoisett! There were 350 riders consuming over 1,200 scoops of ice cream all for a good cause.
