Con Spirito319 viewsThe Tri-County Symphonic Band, under the direction of Philip Sanborn, performed its Con Spirito program on Sunday February 2 at the Old Rochester Regional High School auditorium. In its 52nd concert season, the band welcomed guest French Horn Instrumentalist Roger Haber, and recognized Trumpeter Edith Pliskin on her 94th birthday coming up next week. Mattapoisett Lion’s Club Peace Poster Contest319 viewsIn November the Mattapoisett Lion’s Club held a Peace Poster contest at Old Hammondtown School for the 6th graders. There were 80 participants this year! This years’ theme was “Love, Peace and Understanding”. The winners were: First Place: Spencer Perez-Dormintzer; 2nd Place Kayli Viera; 3rd Place: Maggie Berry & Andrews. Supermoon Eclipse319 viewsA blood red Harvest Moon hangs above Ned’s Point in Mattapoisett where some people had a stellar view of the rare celestial event of a total lunar eclipse of a supermoon. Dozens came to watch the moon on Sunday night as it passed through the Earth’s shadow between 9:07 pm, when the partial eclipse began, and 12:27 am when the spectacle ended. Photo by Colin Veitch

Metacomet319 viewsThe bronze sculpture “Metacomet” will be on display at the Mattapoisett Historical Museum for the next few weeks, on loan from artist David Englund. Englund has a penchant for the underdog, saying he chose Metacomet AKA King Phillip as his subject matter because of history’s bias against him. “I knew his history as a warrior and I know he wasn’t given a fair shake by the historians,” said Englund.
